The High Priest: Duties of Presiding in the Superior Court
Source: TTT
Matthew 26:3, 57–62
At that time the chief priests and elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, / Those who had arrested Jesus led Him away to the house of Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and elders had gathered. / So the high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men testifying against You?”
Acts 5:21–28
At daybreak the apostles entered the temple courts as they had been told and began to teach the people. When the high priest and his associates arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin—the full assembly of the elders of Israel—and sent to the jail for the apostles. / But on arriving at the jail, the officers did not find them there. So they returned with the report: / “We found the jail securely locked, with the guards posted at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”
Acts 23:1–5
Paul looked directly at the Sanhedrin and said, “Brothers, I have conducted myself before God in all good conscience to this day.” / At this, the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. / Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit here to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck.”
